FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION (FAQs)

  • How does battery storage work?

Battery storage will take the energy produced from solar and store it directly into the self-contained unit allowing it to be used when required. Solar panels produce DC energy which is converted to AC by an inverter. This is then stored as AC energy in the battery ready for usage.

  • Why do I need battery storage?

Exported energy from solar panels can generate a small return. For this reason battery storage is used to keep green solar energy, ready for you to use instead of arranging a Smart Energy Guarantee (SEG), with an energy supplier - see our solar page.

  • Are batteries available in different storage sizes?

Yes. The batteries are available in different sizes enabling solar panel owners to store energy to suit their needs, from smaller 2 KWh systems to large commercial 22 KWh systems.

  • How long will the energy last in the battery?

Electricity usage is calculated in kilowatt-hours. A kilowatt-hour is 1,000 watts used for one hour i.e. a kettle uses 2,000 watts continually until its boiled. If this were to continue to boil for one hour it would use 2 KWh. Therefore, if a 2 KWh battery was installed, it could provide enough energy to boil the kettle for an hour. If a 22 KWh battery was installed, you could boil the kettle for 11 hours.

  • Is there only one brand of battery storage?

No. There are several brands of battery storage including: Solaredge, Givenergy, Solax, and LG. Like most products they vary in cost and quality. We would always advise investing in a reputable brand where you are also likely to receive a warranty for your hardware.

  • Can i have the battery installed in my garage or loft space?

Yes. However, this does depend on the battery and the manufacturers guidance. Most batteries are usually stored in a garage, but some batteries can also be installed in a loft space for convenience. This is something that can be discussed prior to installation.
